The ladies section have had a tough season with injury and illness but remained off the bottom of the table.

We have a new singles champion, in fact a new player and handicap new winner also.

    Club championship :

    Winner : Mo Watts

    Runner up : Ann Waldron

    2 Wood singles:

    Winner : Jan Skinner

    Runner up : Jo Adams

    Winner: Sue Watkins

    Runner up: Jan Skinner

Congratulations to all and thank you to all the ladies who have made my first year as Captain an enjoyable one. We had a great finals day followed by a meal at The Ship Inn.

We thank Jo for 8 years as secretary and wish her well as she steps down from the role. We are hopeful of finding a replacement and Jo can relax and enjoy the bowls.

Finally thank you to the men's team and Captain Dave Hill. We thoroughly enjoyed the friendship and bowls with Cheltenham. We look forward to our match next week together when we close the green.

Good health to all and enjoy the winter. See you next summer :)

    Ann Waldron - Ladies Captain

  • August Barbecue Dates

Two dates in August have been designated as 'Barbecue Days' at the club.

The first will coincide with the Terry Youngson Final being held on our green on Sunday 16th August.

It has also intended for our annual club barbecue to take place on Saturday 22nd August after the MBA fixture with Abercarn BC. The GBL side have a fairly local away fixture (also against Abercarn) and it is hoped that as many players as possible will return to the club to help scoff the sausages.

  • A Clean Sweep

This week has seen some excellent returns from our matches in various leagues with a clean sweep of victories - well done to all concerned:

    Saturday 18th - MBA won at Blaina 81 - 80

    Sunday 19th - GBL triumph at home v Gilwern 55 - 46

Tuesday 21st - OSL inflict the first defeat of season on a strong Cwmbran Park side 54 - 44

Wednesday 22nd - The NBA side secure a 14 point victory over Beechwood by 75 shots.

A huge thanks goes out to George, Bob and the other hard working volunteers who have been on hedge cutting duty this past week. The outer borders of our green now look very smart after the odd ton or so of cuttings have been removed

  • Club Competitions

Hopefully you will now have noticed that the Club Competitions spreadsheet has been added under it's own dedicated tab on the website. Matches are being played regularly and Dennis is collating the results and sending the updated spreadsheet to me on a weekly basis.

So check the information regularly to see who is progressing through to the later rounds or if your next opponent is now known.

The photo attached was sent to me from a club competion he marked between Jeff Davies and new member John Tovey - nice tight clustering gents!!
