16th March 2021
Firstly I trust that you are well and continuing to endure the lockdown. There is some sign of a way forward and being a two-jab family helps to feel more secure!
I hope to be able to send out some more positive news about the bowls season later in the week but, although we will probably have to accept some limitations to how we can play, it looks like we will have a more structured season this year albeit the restrictions of social distancing and sanitation of equipment will apply. There will also be limitations on the number of players on the green at any given time. However bearing in mind how we made the most of last season with some friendlies and our Thursday Club nights, personally I cannot wait to get back on the green.
Be in touch soon.

As promised I will try to bring everyone up to date with what we know so far regarding the new bowls season, the big problem being that we do not know what or when the Wales Government will give clearer guidance.
As of today, the situation is that outdoor bowls will be allowed but only singles games, unless two pairs of bowlers each from the same household are playing, in which case four could play on each rink. For the majority it means just two players per rink and the same old rules regarding sanitising the mats, jack etc. will apply as will the need to use only 3 rinks to satisfy the social distance requirements. Everyone will also have to pre-book a rink and I am indebted to Paul Brown for setting up our online booking system again. Without such a facility we would be struggling.
At the moment we have pencilled in Monday 12th as the opening date and we shall see what format can be used at that time. As soon as there is any more detail I shall let you know.
Our finances took a bit of a thump last year and if it were not for the efforts of George Gibb and Glyn Morgan in obtaining several grants, our bank balance would be even more depleted. This year we are looking to be able to publish a fairly comprehensive fixture list and Secretary Kevin is already working on the detail. Once again we are looking for clarity on some details but on the face of it our first fixture will be on 17th April and we will publish details asap.
We will therefore revert to our normal membership fee structure but in order to try to not only retain but also to attract new members, we will be using the formula which was agreed at the AGM in February 2020. For details of reduced membership fees please contact our Club Treasurer Mike Jones on 01633 253868.
There seems to be no reason why we cannot hold our usual club competitions and I recommend you keep an eye on application forms when the green has opened. Club nights on a Thursday evening will also be resurrected and once again details will follow once the rules regarding numbers have been clarified.
So, it's looking positive and now it's up to Mr Drakeford to recognise just how important the game of bowls is to so many people in Wales....good exercise and good social bonding. As soon as we have the detail, we'll be in touch.
Best wishes to all for now. Stay safe.
